THE OAK

Author Ian August was riding through the Deep South and while taking in the historic houses and landscape started to think "What if these oak trees could talk... What stories would they tell?" August candidly describes learning about Black History as a child as something he had mixed emotions about. "Black history seemed kind of depressing to me at times as a kid". As Ian grew older those moments developed into a fundamental appreciation for what it means to be Black in America.
